Thrify Finds and More.....

Hello everyone.............as the teenagers would say OMG, did I stumble on the coolest stuff today.  I left hubby, along with our little guy at home to do some DOWN HOME projects and I decided it was a day I wanted to go on a "junk" journey.  Well, my first stop, I decided to go to the Salvation Army in a different county, and I found a very cool wicker picnic basket ($4.99), an old-fashioned bottle puller (.99) (that I plan on using as a wine bottle holder) and a very different kind of cooling rack ($2.99).  Next stop, and I realize now that I should of taken pictures of the antique stores I stopped at because they were both very unique and filled with everything that I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!  Anyway, it is called Time-N-Again Antiques.  Well if you dig the whole white and cottagy look then you would find everything you need.  Me, not so much.  Let me refrain, I love the look that others put together, but I've never been a huge fan of white and with having four dogs would make it impossible to keep things clean.  Well it turns out that my kind of stuff was at the back of the store and they had it all.  Old kitchen gadgets, rusty farm stuff, etc.  They had a miniature metal chair for kids, old aprons, wire racks, wooden ironing boards, old fashioned kitchen knick-knacks and gadgets and the list goes on.  I opted not to buy anything here, and moved on to the next thrift shop.  I got lucky and found the coolest old house picture, framed ($8.00).  Of course, I had to buy something for my little guy, so I found a bobble head wrestler for ($2.00).  And then I found a Family Circle magazine from last year which issue was all about Halloween.  Well for (.10 cents), I couldn't go wrong and I love the holiday.  Just when I thought my purchases were finished, I couldn't resist buying this pair of salt and pepper shakers that were kinda oversized for ($2.00).  After talking with the lady at the register, she said she was almost certain they were sterling silver and very old.  The funny this was that they already came with the salt and pepper in them!   Don't worry, I dumped it out and cleaned it all up.  I posted a nice little picture of all my great finds.  For about $21.00 bucks, WOW! I had a wonderful day shopping.  To make things even nicer, we spent the evening at our friends house and had a great dinner, got to talk and catch up and just ENJOYED hanging out.

ANOTHER THRIFTY FIND........
Wow! I can't tell you how much joy it brings me to hunt around for treasures. And it is sooooooooooo true about one man's trash is another man's treasure. Bring it on!!! And I do realize that Tuesday is probably an unusual day to go "thrifting", however, I spotted an old table last week, and I was hoping it hadn't sold, but it did. Have I been kicking myself in the rump, I have..............so I decided to go on another quest, mainly because sales were stinkin' with my part-time job and I thought to myself, "do what brings you joy" and "thrifting" was it. So I hit two different stores. The first was a few clothing items, no real big deal, except for the cutest little pin that I found. I immediately thought of my gramma, who passed away from cancer. She was always a big birder and oh how I love to feed and watch the birds. So next stop, I scored a really cool wicker basket ($5.00), which would be great for magazines. Then I got a cherry pie plate with lid ($5.00). How cute!!! I found the wackiest coffee pot ($2.00), but I am bummed, because it is missing the percolator from inside. Oh well, you win some and lose some. Then I found an awesome bowl ($2.00), which was a bit chipped, but I got it for a $1.00 less. Then last, but not least, I found an OLD rolling pin. I think she charged me ($1.50). YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...................So my part time job sales stunk, but not my junk journey. I say score!  I gotta go take some pics, so you can see. I get way excited finding bargains, and then I get a bit upset because I'm running out of room to display everything. I do see a pattern here, that maybe (and I have always thought this), that this is the type of work-related thing I should be doing. I get so envious of all those people that started businesses and have succeeded. They have the most awesome eye for design and creativity - that I do believe I am meant to be in this line of work. And perhaps because of losing my jobs last February, that (BMU)(Big Man Upstairs, and no that's not my husband) has bigger plans for me. I HOPE! I HOPE! I HOPE!

Well, I'm back again.............and this time, I took my good buddy, Doreen and her daughter, Savanna on their first junk journey with me on Saturday.  We met at 10:00 at the local library and headed over to our first stop.  The place is called SMILE, and it is affiliated with a local church.  And let me tell you, the place was MOBBED!!!  I have only been to this place about 3 times, and each time, it was not busy.  So I picked not only a busy day, but a hot and muggy one too.  Anyway, I didn't get so lucky here, but knew, as long as we were hitting more places, then I would eventually.  Well, Doreen found a little Timex watch ring and a silver heart tricket basket for Savanna.  Then off we went to Vintage Values, and I got lucky here.  I found the cutest little milk pitcher and sugar holder with metal lids that fit on top for just a mere ($2.00), then I found a beach-looking bag that was $10.00, but marked down to just ($5.00).  Grabbed me a pair of Tommy Hilfigger shorts (which, by the way, I never, ever, wear shorts, but they were really cute and as I was checking out, I thought what the heck.  I think they were ($3.00).  And the coolest find was a warming plate, which I made sure to plug in to see if it worked or not, and whallah.....it did.  I believe that was about ($5.00).  What a bargain.  Off to the next place, which was a Habitat for Humanity Re-Sell Store.  Doreen was looking for hanging lamps, and we did find them here, but unfortunately the prices seemed a bit high.  They had lots of other things as well, but we left empty-handed.   And the last spot was another Vintage Values store right behind the Re-Sell store.  I have always said that anytime I am looking for something, I can almost always walk into a junk or thrift store and find it.  It's kinda weird like that.  The funny thing is that I spotted a hummingbird hovering on our deck the night before, and I had just said to my husband that I need to get a hummingbird feeder.  Well, what do you know, I walk in and spot a big, bright red one for just ($3.00).  I also came across these metal nesting bows (3 of them) in the same design as my dishes.  Well, of course, I had to buy them ($5.00) and lastly was for my little guy, which Savanna happened to of seen in the toy section, a WWE wrestling figure for just (25 cents).  LET'S EVERYONE SAY "BARGAIN"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
